Aviation Update


TCC information on possible degree programs/certifications that can be completed after high school:

The Aviation Academy allows students to begin taking dual credit college courses in the field of Aviation while still in high school.  


*There are multiple pathways within the Aviation Academy*

Aviation Maintenance Technician Pathway (Requires additional money for TCC tuition, books, and tools.)

      9th Grade - Foundations of Aviation

      10th Grade - Introduction to Aircraft Technology

      11th Grade - TCC (This is a double block class.) (Must pass TSI test prior to enrollment) ($1000 - $2000  estimated tool cost)

      Fall Semester - Aviation Sciences and Weight & Balance

      Spring Semester - Federal Aviation Regulations and Ground Operations

      12 Grade - TCC (This is a double block class.)

      Fall Semester - Basic Electricity

      Spring Semester - Shop Practices

Pilot Pathway (Requires additional money for TCC tuition, books, and flight training.)

      9th Grade - Foundations of Aviation

      10th Grade - Introduction to Aircraft Technology

      11th Grade - Eaton High School or TCC (Must pass TSI test prior to enrollment to TCC)

      Option 1 - Private Pilot Fundamentals / Project Based Research at Eaton High School

      Option 2 TCC -  Start Pilot training for a career as a professional pilot. Must already have completed your FAA Private Pilot Certificate. (The most up-to-date costs are at the TCC website https://www.tccd.edu/academics/courses-and-programs/programs-a-z/credit/aviation/professional-pilot/) (This is a triple block class.) ##

      12th Grade - Students have two options.

      Option 1 EHS - Private Pilot Simulator (This is a double block class.)

      Complete an FAA-approved Private Pilot Airplane Ground School course, and complete an FAA-approved Private Pilot Airplane flight syllabus on simulators in the computer lab. The students will not receive any FAA eligible flight time or flight instruction but will complete the FAA-required Private Pilot flight maneuvers on a simulator. Students Must meet FAA grading standards to be eligible to take the Private Pilot Knowledge Test.

      Option 2  TCC - Private Pilot Training (This is a triple block class.)

      This will be 3 ground courses and 1 flight course for the year. (The most up to date costs are at the TCC website https://www.tccd.edu/academics/courses-and-programs/programs-a-z/credit/aviation/professional-pilot/)

Unmanned Aircraft Systems Pathway  (All courses are at Eaton High School)

      9th Grade - Foundations of Aviation

      10th Grade - Introduction to Aircraft Technology

      11th Grade - Drone Pilot Ground School/Project Based Research (Student Will be eligible to take the FAA Drone Pilot Certification exam at the end of the year if they meet all FAA requirements.)

      12 Grade - Practicum in Transportation  (This is a double block class.)

Additional Info:  Some courses at TCC have high-stakes tests throughout the semester, if a high-stakes test is failed the student fails the semester at the college regardless of their grade percentage. Some courses lead to FAA testing opportunities, the eligibility requirements to test for an FAA test are different than Northwest ISD grading policies.
