Northwest ISD track and field athletes advance to state meet
Seven Northwest ISD student-athletes will represent the district at the 2022 UIL Track and Field State meet at the University of Texas at Austin’s Mike A. Myers Stadium May 13 and 14.
NORTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL
After recording a first-place jump of 5’5” at regionals, Anaya Potter will compete for the second year in a row at the state meet in the women’s 1-5A high jump competition.
Northwest High School’s Kenan Reil earned state qualifying times at regionals in four events, placing second in the 5A boys long jump, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 4X400 relay. Reil’s long jump measurement of 22-9.25 set his second school record of the season.
Junior Andrew Lutkenhaus took second at regionals in the 5A boys 800 with a final time of 1:54.62. Lutkenhaus also qualified for state in the 4X400 relay.
The boys 4x400-meter relay with Reil, Lutkenhaus, George Wheatley and Sam Smith finished second at regionals with a state-qualifying time of 3:20.58.

The Texans will compete at the 5A state track championships on Friday, May 13, at the University of Texas at Austin’s Mike A. Myers Stadium.
EATON HIGH SCHOOL
In the men’s 1-6A regional meet, V.R. Eaton senior Hunter Erb secured a state berth in the discus. The Texas A&M football commit placed second with a throw of 157-11.
BYRON NELSON HIGH SCHOOL
Byron Nelson 800-meter runner Carlos Tello was added to the list of UIL State Track and Field qualifiers after being called up late to the meet. Tello placed third at regionals in the 800 with a time of 1:54.57.
Erb and Tello will compete at the 2022 UIL Track and Field State meet at the University of Texas at Austin’s Mike A. Myers Stadium on Saturday, May 14.
