Northwest ISD recognized as CTE District of Distinction by CTAT
Northwest ISD has been designated as a Career and Technical Education District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas.
This recognition highlights school districts across Texas that demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to preparing students for success through high-quality CTE programs. NISD will be formally recognized next week at the CTAT conference. The recognition also comes during CTE Month, which brings awareness to the importance of these programs.
“This distinction is a reflection of the dedication and hard work our teachers, staff and students put in every day in our CTE classrooms,” said Kelley Henderson, NISD’s executive director of college and career readiness. “Northwest ISD prioritizes student success, and that commitment is evident in the competitive edge our graduates gain.”
NISD’s CTE programs are designed to align with workforce demands, offering innovative learning experiences that prepare students for real-world careers, Henderson said. Last year, students earned more than 5,000 industry-based certifications, with more than 2,000 submissions for Texas Education Agency Industry-Based Certification credit.
With eight academies and 23 programs of study, Henderson said NISD ensures students train on industry-standard equipment, providing hands-on experience with the same advanced tools used in professional settings. She added that educators receive specialized training and resources to keep instruction aligned with industry innovations.
The district’s CTE program also offers dual-credit and honors courses, as well as opportunities for students to participate in career and technical student organizations. Last year, NISD students qualified for national competitions, with many earning top awards.
The CTE program also partners with more than 80 business and educational partners that mentor student intern programs.
"These efforts equip students with the skills, certifications and experience necessary to thrive in today’s competitive job market," Henderson said. “From our school board to our community members, we are surrounded by people who believe in preparing the next generation for success. I’m incredibly proud of our educators, students and staff for achieving this prestigious honor.”
